   Georg Winkler    clarinetsWorkshop

"I received my musical formation as a classical clarinettist at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and have been working for many years as a free musician and music teacher. Some years ago I had my first encounter with the world of Klezmer music, and ever since this music has fascinated me deeply and taken up great part of my time.

Through intense studies of this music, I have discovered a totally new way of conceiving and performing music, which enriches also my activity as a classical musician in orchestras as well as chamber music ensembles and gave me back a new pleasure of making music.

My theoretical occupation with Klezmer music, my research about background information and about the entire whereabouts finally led me to write a thesis about Klezmer music".

Musical biography:

Instrumental studies with Prof. Dr. Heine and Prof. Alois Brandhofer at the Salzburg Mozarteum Conservatory. Then straight across musicology, theology, Germanic studies in language, all of them connected to my research work.

For many years I was a member of the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg, of the Dome Orchestra Salzburg, the Orchestra Pro Musica, the Euregio-Orchestra, the Johann Strauß Orchester Salzburg, the Salzburger Kammersolisten, the Symphony Orchestra Bad Reichenhall, the Salzburger Landestheater etc.

Concerts with "Frejlech", a Klezmer-Band from Vienna, Roman Grinberg, Shmuel Barzilai (Oberkantor of the Wiener Stadttempel), "Wandering Stars" from Israel, Elliah Magalnyk and Leon Ruthshtein (... one of the best Klezmer-groups all over the world - Die Presse).

Workshops: Christian Dawid, Alexandr Danilov, Isaak Loberan ...

Participation on productions of the Salzburg Festival (operas, orchestral concerts, church concerts, stage music);
